The
idea behind this trip is to provide not only an alternative Christmas
holiday but also for it to be a musical focus trip which will put
something back into the country. A percentage of the price of the trip
will be supporting a local school in Katmandu and also an orphanage in
Pokara as well as others along the way. We will be bringing instruments
including percussion and drums (stuffed with teddy bears!) to facilitate
drum circles. We can then leave the instruments there . When we link with
the school, the teachers can learn to facilitate rhythmical events with
the children so that they can continue the work when we leave. On the last
couple of trips the music went down really well as they haven't done this
before. The children played rhythm games, played instruments and sung
songs in English and also their own Nepalese music. I would be keen to
link with local musicians there, which could give them work too. I would
like to raise awareness of the situation in Nepal which isn't good due to
flooding, poverty and rebel fighting. You can also get involved either by
fund raising, linking schools here with those over there or actually
coming on the trip itself. |
